If you’ve missed the latest golf news, the SAS Championship is underway for the full weekend! Our favorite “bad boy,” John Daly is carrying an overall +2 score. This championship tournament is part of the Champions Tour that began back in 2001. Annually, the champs hook up in Cary, North Carolina at the Prestonwood Country Club. The SAS Institute, who is a leader in the analytics software game, is the primary sponsor. The purse is a sweet $2.1 million.
The current title is being held by Doug Garwood, a 53-year-old, American golfer. Doug has been on the PGA Champions Tour since 2013. In addition to the 2016 SAS Championship, Doug has also won the 2014 Straight Down Fall Classic and the 2001 Long Beach Open. As of today, Doug is hanging in there in a nine-way tie with an overall score of -3, and the current leader at -6 is Jerry Smith. It’s super early in the tournament, with lots of play time left for lead changes.
There are still three tournaments remaining in 2017, so if you’re planning to attend one, best get busy! The Dominion Charity Classic will be at the beautiful Country Club of Virginia on October 20 through 22. October 27 through 29 brings us to the PowerShares QQQ Championship at the picturesque Sherwood Country Club located at the foot of the Santa Monica Mountain range in Lake Sherwood, California. Finally, November 10 through 12 takes us to fabulous Phoenix, Arizona’s Phoenix Country Club for the Charles Schwab Cup Championship. Respectively, Scott McCarron, Tom Pernice, Jr., and Paul Goydos are the current title owners.
We mentioned John “bad boy” Daly because his past is full of extraordinary tales and events, plus lots of conflict and controversy that will make you laugh, cry and shake your head. You may know John best for his wild and whacky clothing line that includes pants that display John’s loud personality. He has also come up with a line of beverages, Grip it and Sip it, that also teeters on the edge of a ledge with tastes that push the envelope again. With only eight percent alcohol, and black tea, both flavors, Hard Tea and Half & Half are fun by the pool, on the course or just hanging with the crowd.
If you can’t grip it and rip it, go ahead and grip it and sip it!!
